I was on the phone and doodles a foot, complete with nails and skin tone. Usually I doodle flowers or umbrellas, does anyone know if there are meanings behind what we doodle..
Is there a science behind doodling?
Some psychologists think there may be a correlation between personality, mood, and the type of doodles one makes.

Reply:Yes. They are called projectives.
Rorschach Inkblot Test
Dream Interpretation
House-Tree-Person
Thematic Apperception Test
Word Association
Incomplete Sentences assessment
Free Association measures
Draw A Person
All are ways that therapists interpret what is inside.
There are sites on the Internet that have a basic listing of types of doodles and what they mean but these are often not normed as are the above tests.
Handwriting analysis has not been normed. Some professionals can become good at noticing certain physiological attributes or disabilities after years of doing therapy and noticing handwriting.
Reply:If you aren't thinking about much it can be somthing that you don't wan't to think about. Or it could be something that you talking about on the phone mabye a foot came up in the conversation.
I think its the same as dreams, they tell us things we don't what to know.
Reply:Hello,
(ANS) YES! doodling is a very interesting subject, why? often the things people draw whilst doodling come from the subconscious or directly from the unconscious mind. However, the images in doodling cannot be taken in the literal sense but have to be interpreted by an experienced person who has an understanding of the symbols %26amp; language of the unconscious mind.
**Doodling is on a par with free association or completely spontaneous or random thinking. Free association was a method famously used by the great Psychoanalyst Dr Sigmund Fraude. Free association was used to indicate the real motives %26amp; drives found buried in the unconscious self.
**There is No! science behind doodling but there is an art in making sense of these images, these images can tell us (you) about whats going on inside your unconscious self, this is also abit like dreams %26amp; dream interpretation, its the same process exactly.
Kind Regards Ivan
Reply:of course there is... There is a science for everything we can observe, predict, and test. But social science like analysis of handwriting, and doodling is too often over-generalized. You might ask yourself what mood you're in when you doodle? How the person you're talking to on the phone makes you feel? And what is the topic of conversation? Are you mostly listening or mostly talking or both? What kind of day are you having? What do you think about the most lately? What are your biggest concerns right now? Maybe these questions can lead to a doodle analysis. My guess is, however, that, even though correlations exist, you'll have a very tough time finding anything genuine. Our minds are very complex and very fast moving. Genuine science would take years of doodle scrutiny.
Good luck.
