Poll: What would your ideal first time be?

Like my cousin asked me this question tonight and it really got me thinking. What would my ideal first time be? It was a really interesting question I think because I had never really thought about it. And now that I did, I can't stop smiling. I'm such a romantic. ;) Like I'd bring her flowers. *I'd look up the meanings of different flowers and give em to her* and it would just be amazing! ^_^

....ps yeah i'm gay, deal with it. (that sounded harsh. and i'm not really like that.)

Poll: What would your ideal first time be?
I'm getting a lil borred with romantic guys, plus u can't really plan this, it just happens, hmmm, maybe at a chessy motel
Reply:Mine would be quick

:-)
Reply:if i had to do it over again, it would probably be w/ the first person i've fallen in love with because i know he loves me, instead of someone i considered only a friend
Reply:If I could do my first time all over again...it would be extremely slow and soft, there would be candlelight and roses and I could kiss and touch her entire body and let her do the same...we would then lay under the stars hand in hand until talking, laughing and kissing until the sun comes out.

LOL am I corny or what?

I guess I like every time I'm with a new girl to be like our first...
Reply:Ideally my first time would be more a response than an initiative. I always imagined that my first time would happen as a result of a woman saying something, either a quick comment or opinion, that gave me an epiphany and helped me realize that there was no need to search for anyone else in my life. *fingers crossed

Dreamcatcher...different colours of feather, different meaning?

I was wondering are there meanings behind every different colour of the dreamcatcher's feathers? I've saw black feathers, beige ones, white ones. Is there any meaning in it? as in like diff flowers got different meanings? If do, which color represents what? Thanks!

Dreamcatcher...different colours of feather, different meaning?
I don't really know if the colours represent anything,in a dreamcatcher, but the red/white/black/yellow represent the four nations of the world. I make suncatchers, something like dreamcatchers, but my creations catch the sun and send positive thinking.
Reply:they get the meaning of what ever you want them to be. dreamcatchers are made with jus the idea of decorating now...so sad. my great-grandma would probably be so confused if she came back n saw how theyre used today. but u give the power to the catcher...if u get wat i mean. it is what you make it to be. ;)
Reply:It depends on who makes the dreamcatcher. I'm a Native American by blood. My dad is a traditionalist, as their called. If you know a traditionalist made them then they should have 4 colors: red, black, yellow, and white. A color each for the 4 directions and 4 skin colors. Normally, though, it is done in beads in the webbing of the catcher. However, the multy colored feathered catchers are made, mostly, by non-traditionalists looking for a quick buck off the nearest white eyes that'll buy it. And of course, everyone likes colors.
Reply:yes the different colors can mean different things you can search these online or look them up in some wiccan books i cant think of a website right off the top of my head but it shouldnt be too hard to find

Is there a science behind doodling?

I was on the phone and doodles a foot, complete with nails and skin tone. Usually I doodle flowers or umbrellas, does anyone know if there are meanings behind what we doodle..

Is there a science behind doodling?
Some psychologists think there may be a correlation between personality, mood, and the type of doodles one makes.

Reply:Yes. They are called projectives.

All are ways that therapists interpret what is inside.

There are sites on the Internet that have a basic listing of types of doodles and what they mean but these are often not normed as are the above tests.

Handwriting analysis has not been normed. Some professionals can become good at noticing certain physiological attributes or disabilities after years of doing therapy and noticing handwriting.
Reply:If you aren't thinking about much it can be somthing that you don't wan't to think about. Or it could be something that you talking about on the phone mabye a foot came up in the conversation.

I think its the same as dreams, they tell us things we don't what to know.
Reply:Hello,

(ANS) YES! doodling is a very interesting subject, why? often the things people draw whilst doodling come from the subconscious or directly from the unconscious mind. However, the images in doodling cannot be taken in the literal sense but have to be interpreted by an experienced person who has an understanding of the symbols %26amp; language of the unconscious mind.

**Doodling is on a par with free association or completely spontaneous or random thinking. Free association was a method famously used by the great Psychoanalyst Dr Sigmund Fraude. Free association was used to indicate the real motives %26amp; drives found buried in the unconscious self.

**There is No! science behind doodling but there is an art in making sense of these images, these images can tell us (you) about whats going on inside your unconscious self, this is also abit like dreams %26amp; dream interpretation, its the same process exactly.

Kind Regards Ivan
Reply:of course there is... There is a science for everything we can observe, predict, and test. But social science like analysis of handwriting, and doodling is too often over-generalized. You might ask yourself what mood you're in when you doodle? How the person you're talking to on the phone makes you feel? And what is the topic of conversation? Are you mostly listening or mostly talking or both? What kind of day are you having? What do you think about the most lately? What are your biggest concerns right now? Maybe these questions can lead to a doodle analysis. My guess is, however, that, even though correlations exist, you'll have a very tough time finding anything genuine. Our minds are very complex and very fast moving. Genuine science would take years of doodle scrutiny.

Good luck.

nanny job

Girls - Would you prefer to be surprised with flowers at work or in person?

Me and my GF attend and work at the same college... so I see her often. I got my first pay check and I want to do something special and give her flowers.

I plan to do the following arrangements -

6 white roses - showing that I care

5 yellow roses - signifying friendship

1 red rose - love

Purpose is that I want her to know that I care of her and will be there for her; with the friendship and trust that we have, love will surely come.... This kind of summarizes what our relationship is currently like.

I want to write her about the meanings of the colors but I am not sure how to come about it... She is a simple girl and I dont know if I should just explain to her through a poem or directly tell her in writing.

What do you guys think about this arrangement and idea?

Would it be better to surprise with flowers sent to her at work or in person?

Girls - Would you prefer to be surprised with flowers at work or in person?
Same ways.
Reply:thats so cute

you should surpise her
Reply:IN PERSON! Much more romantic, do it by a big body of water (lake, river, ocean) or a place thats quiet and romantic and peaceful then retrieve the bouquet from where you had hid it earlier behind the tree and surprise her! or take her out to a nice restaurant and give her flowers at the door!
Reply:in person, its much more romantic

Tattoo symbolism?

i want to get a tattoo, but i want it to have meaning. and i noticed a sparrow is a theme in tattoos, and different flowers have different meanings. so could anyone tell me what a sparrow represents, along with flowers (whatever kind you know about).

Tattoo symbolism?
I agree with *Nicole*

You can make getting a tattoo an experience or a fad. If you want it to be an experience, do the research yourself and find what is meaningful to you.

I wrote my degree dissertation of symbolism within tattoo imagery, I found this site to be very useful with alot of things. Of course at the end of the day a symbol can mean something different to everyone who has it when it's dealing with tattoos, but this site gives a good general overview. Hope this helps!

Reply:When someone says "i want to get a tattoo, but i want it to have meaning. "

...you expect them to get a meaningful tattoo... Meaningful to them. Not just something with a generic meaning!

Now let me ask you this... WHY would you get something that isn't meaningful to YOU!? Who cares what it means to other people? You shouldn't. Tattoos are about the person who gets them, not about the rest of the world!

Sparrows are a sailor tattoo, there are a few different historical reasons and meanings... Go look that up.

Now, think hard of something that means something to YOU and consider it for a tattoo. Tattoos are supposed to express the wearer, and picking a popular design and then finding the tattoo is silly.

Sorry to be so rude, but someone should say it.

Has a movie ever affected you profoundly?

I never thought a movie could affect me but it has. And it isn't exactly an epic movie LOL.

It was "Imagine Me %26amp; You". One of the main characters was a florist. I've always loved the meanings of flowers and have appreciated their beauty. But I've never really thought about it. And for some reason I thought about it today, and realized I'd like to be a florist and would love to study Botany.

Personally I think it's also a romantic profession. ^_^

Has a movie ever affected you profoundly?
That was a brilliant movie.

"lost and delirious" affected me greaattttllly in too many ways to describe.
Reply:When I was a kid the babysitter brought over a tape to watch. It was West Side Story with Natalie Wooward. I was glued to the television. She also brought Jiffy Pop which instantly peaked my interest but once the movie started it was like BAM upside the head. Whats up with this type of predjudice then I started looking around and really noticing how petty some people can be, and how it becomes a cause as I got older, and you know what, in the long run, all this worrying about other people is so fool hardy.
Reply:awe thats really cute =D. i love that movie!! yes i would say some movies change me.

the movie that changed me the most, and helped me...is The Chlidrens Hour (1961-Audrey Hepburn %26amp; Shirley McLaine), its about 2 female teachers being accused of lesbianism, and one of the teachers realizes her feelings for the other are true. it made me realize i was bi, and that ive always felt that way, and i knew what those feelings finally were. =]]

of course there was a couple others but this one changed me for the better, and was most affective.

Teens....How do you interpret the poem "nothing gold can stay"?

Nature's first green is gold

Her hardest hue to hold

Her early leaf's a flower

But only so an hour

Then leaf subsides to leaf

So Eden sank to grief

So dawn goes down to day

Nothing gold can stay

what are some different meanings that can be seen in the poem?

does the poem sound upsetting or encouraging to you?

{i need this info for a project i am doing}

thanks!

Teens....How do you interpret the poem "nothing gold can stay"?
The last part "nothing gold can stay" is encouraging I think, its like nothings going to stay forever so make the most of it while you have it.

I %26lt;/3 this poem by the way lol
Reply:its says the Good things don't last for a long time. that's why we should cherish it while we have it.

the message is basically dedicated for the girls since it mentioned "Eden" and "her". and most girls would love to receive gifts from their lovers.
Reply:its from the outsiders we had to do this when i was in school,

the gold is the sunrise

if you read all of the book the outsiders by se hinton pony boy explains it to johnny
Reply:thats from the outsiders i read the book in school last year nothing gold it means like well in the book it really meant nothing gold can stay when ur a kid u have it good but when u grow up it gets harder the flowers are beautiful in summer but there gone in winter nothing gold can stay u should watch the movie it explains it better
Reply:I see it as nothing can stay the same forever, no matter how much you want it to. For example, the same way a flower must turn into a leaf, a child must grow up into an adult.
Reply:Sorry, not a teen! :)
Reply:Ah, one of my favorite Poems. Basically, it translates to nothing good lasts forever. Also featured in the book "The Outsiders".
Reply:I think it mean's that nothing lasts forever and all good things must come to an end. Life is very quick. But just like the seasons, though good things must end new things will be born from the bad.
Reply:Aha, I had to do something with this last year because we were reading 'The Outsiders' is that why you are doing it?

Well this poem is pretty much saying that happiness doesn't last forever...I know that sounds really depressing but its true.

Like a sunset, it's so pretty while it last, but it doesn't last too long does it?

Yeah, pretty much just means happiness does not last forever.

Does anyone know what colors are in an indian wedding?

a hindi wedding i mean and if theres any specific flowers and what are the meanings of the flowers and colors

please and thank you

Does anyone know what colors are in an indian wedding?
I did a presentation while i was in college, and instead of going overboard with flowers like we americans do they love statues. They colors are like burgundy, red, and the love gold, some use blue and gold wih a sprinkle of burguny focusing on the statues. hope this helps.
Reply:All I know is red, red, red and gold. red dress red flowers lots of red.
Reply:Red is a sign of fertility and I've seen lots of red used at Hindi weddings. I've also seen lots of gold but I don't know the meaning behind that.
Reply:They use rich colors, such as royal blues, burgandys, golds. They also use a lot of statues. Flowers are usually to a minimum.

I'm stuck: Any ideas for tattoos with specific meanings? (See details)?

I'm 18 and I want to get a tattoo. I have a tattoo in mind but I'm stuck. On my left shoulder blade, I'm going to have a fairy with butterfly wings (in the wings will be "Luctor et emergo" which means I struggle and emerge). I wanted to have the fairy with one hand out with 3 or 4 things suspended in air above, sort of like when fairies blow fairy dust from their hands. The symbols will be small and most likely travel up to the top of my shoulder. I'm trying to find symbols for misguidance OR naivety (2 mark my life before finding myself), maturity, new beginnings, OR rebirth (2 mark my transition from childhood to adulthood), and freedom, joy, purity, OR love (2 mark what my future holds for me). I was looking for any symbols: objects, flowers, and/or animals. I also was looking for something that represents maternal love or the connection with a mother, and anything that represents playfulness, friendship, sensuality, trustworthiness, OR femininity (my personality).

I'm stuck: Any ideas for tattoos with specific meanings? (See details)?
talk to your tattoo artist. if you are serious about getting this tattoo, then i'm sure you have already looked into your local artists, talked to them, talked to co-workers or clients of theirs, looked at their portfolios, and checked out their tattooing space to see that it all meets your expectations- after all, a tattoo is permanent. so as i said- the best suggestion i can give you is, talk to your artist! he should be able to help you come up with ideas, and see what it will look like. if the image chosen has too much detail, it will not turn out right as a small tattoo (it will blur, lose detail, etc). your artist can help decide on ideas. after all, this is his job, and it's what they do every day.
Reply:things mean what YOU want them to mean. If you feel that a baseball symbolizes love then that's what you get. If you feel that a tampon symbolizes your rebirth from childhood into adulthood then so be it.

And believe it or not, all tattoos don't have to mean something.
Reply:"2 mark my transition from childhood to adulthood"

You want to get a tattoo and you still use a "2" in the place of the word "to"....sounds like you haven't made that transition yet...

What is the figurative and literal meanings of this poem?

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today;

And give us not to think so far away

As the uncertain harvest; keep us here

All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,

Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;

And make us happy in the happy bees,

The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird

That suddenly above the bees is heard,

The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,

And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,

To which it is reserved for God above

To sanctify to what far ends he will,

But which it only needs that we fulfill.

by robert frost

What is the figurative and literal meanings of this poem?
I don't know what Frost intended but I would say the poem is about the glories of nature and the present moment. Frost seems to be saying that God created all this loveliness for our appreciation and if we don't appreciate it, we aren't loving God and we aren't loving. Happiness, too, can only be found in the present moment. I think he's also saying that God's creation requires a response from us; responsibility = our response to God's ability.

Oops! I see you want literal and figurative. I think I answered the literal (with poetic license). Figuratively I think he means, in the first stanza, keeping the mind focused on the here and now and not what things will be or how it's all going to turn out; let's just enjoy "what is".

The orchard white could have something to do with purity and innocence. The ghosts by night in connection to the orchard white could mean the terror of the light of truth shining on our deeds; memories of life lived badly or agonizing losses.

By allowing ourselves to be happy in the happy bees, we're getting outside ourselves and not so self-consumed but sharing in the joy and beauty that surrounds us.

The hummingbird he's describing in the 3rd stanza is a marvel of nature which can make us humble as we contemplate The Mind from whence it sprang. Could we create such magnificence? How great is our God that could create such magnificence?

The sanctification of the 4th stanza could be the awareness of the Oneness of which we participate in our minds to recognize his wonders and in our hearts to be able to stand in awe, with the willingness to appreciate and be grateful and praise the essence from which they come.
Reply:it means that because god loves us he makes us die
Reply:What a lovely poem! It means that we should enjoy the beauty that is all around us in nature. It also means that we should enjoy its beauty right now, not put it off until later because the future is uncertain, and the present is really the only thing that we can truly say is ours.

What are the meanings of koi tattoo's?

I know they have a meaning but what is it. and the meaning for those hawaiian flowers. i want to get a sleeve of angels on one arm, and a sleve of devils on the other arm. i want them to go all up my arm on my shoulder and i want a massive angel leader looking at a massive devil leader.. about to fight in the middle of my chest. i got this idea because in my life i have been threw hard times and bad times. my life has been kinda a battle with good and evil. good idea or dumb?

sorry im typing so bad and unsifisticated... i'm drunk and just got home from chilling with a bleezie. so tell me about my ideas WOOT.. HOLLA

What are the meanings of koi tattoo's?
KOI TATTOO - Probably surprising to many westerners is the large of amount of ancient myth that surrounds these beautiful fish in the Orient and their elevated status there. Generally known here as the brightly colored fish that are common in public ponds and fountains, carp (koi is Japanese for carp) can be found in colors that include white, yellow, gold, a deep orange, and some are even calico-colored. Particularly beautiful specimens have been known to fetch prices in excess of half-a-million dollars from private collectors who specialize in their breeding and showing. However, the koi is more than just a colorful and collectible fish. It is also one of the most popular and beautiful of Japanese tattoo symbols – a beauty which belies its symbolic meaning. Although Chinese in origin, the carp is now widely celebrated in Japan, particularly for its manly qualities. It is said to climb waterfalls bravely, and, if caught, it lies upon the cutting board awaiting the knife without a quiver, not unlike a samurai (warrior) facing a sword. This theme dates back to ancient China, where a legend tells of how any koi that succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate (on the Yellow River) would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement. Eventually, the stoic fish came to be associated with so many masculine and positive qualities that it was appropriated for the annual Boys' Day Festival in Japan where even today colorful, streaming koi flags are traditionally displayed for each son in the family. In tattoo imagery, especially in combination with flowing water, it symbolizes much the same: courage, the ability to attain high goals, and overcoming life's difficulties.
Reply:Dont get any tattoo while drunk! Those angel/devil may seem like a good idea now, but wait til you sober up a bit. I knew a guy who felt morally torn, always giving in to his 'evil' side, but knowing he should follow his good side, so he got a huge tat of a dragon, a symbol for satan across his shoulders and back...like the temptation follows him everyhere. Its a little less literal than your tat idea...and sometimes thats a good thing..
Reply:great question I'd like to know too.
Reply:I'm pretty sure they mean luck. Do you mean hibiscus flowers? I don't know about those.

I think that that sounds like a really bad idea, no offense. If you don't know the meaning of some of the (trite) symbols that you want to use, you really shouldn't use them. Also huge tattoos are hard to hide and they're very costly.

Don't get the tattoo. You'll thank me (and yourself) when you sober up in the morning.

Meanings of some phrases?

I would lilke to have these phrases cleared.

1. What's difference between authority and authorities?

2. Which is correct?

a. There are many floweres in the garden such as rose, tulip, AND lily.

b, There are many flowers in the garden such as rose, tulip. OR lily.

Meanings of some phrases?
Authority, is the governing agency, for example, The Port Authority, while authorities, are the people who oversee the rules.

Of #2, a, is correct. The second sentence is comparing tulips to lilies. Best wishes
Reply:Please believe me, this comment is NOT "sour grapes," because my answer wasn't chosen! But I just hate to see you

accept an answer that uses an incorrect form, as this one does. To be using fluent English, you MUST have the names of those flowers in the plural form, "roses, tulips and lilies." Report Abuse

Reply:1. Authority is verb and Authorities are noun (Singular / Plural)

2. A. (but a spelling mistake - flowers)
Reply:1. Authority can be one person; parent, boss, manager, etc.

Authorities = Protectors of the peace.

2. A

A. Should be written.

There are many flowers in the garden such as roses, tulips, and lilies.
Reply:The simplest answer to your first question is that authority is singular and authorities is plural. Both are nouns. (The verb would be to authorize.)

And for the second question, the correct version would be:

"There are many flowers in the garden, such as roses, tulips and lilies."
Reply:1. One is in singular, the other is in plural

2. There are many flowers in the garden, such as roses, tulips, and lilies.
Reply:Authority is verb and authorities is noun.

There are many flowers in the garden such as rose, tulip, AND lily. this is correct.

Meaning of chinese symbols / art motifs?

I need to know what do the chinese dragons, birds, different types of flowers, plants, or any other animals mean. What do they symbolise and stuff. If possible, with double-meanings. The original meaning and the other one that it sounds like.

Meaning of chinese symbols / art motifs?
Hmm, a big task there, as there are so many. Bats are a good luck symbol, since bat and luck have the same sound ("fu"). Dragons have four claws unless they are royal, then they have five. Dragonflies represent summer; Chrysanthemum sounds like "nine" so should be picked on the 9th day of the 9th month.... It's endless, really.

The web is your best bet, and I've put a link below. It's not easy, unfortunately, to find a site that has the symbol and meaning and pronunciation, but keep digging.

Good luck!

Do you know the meanings of this dream?.....?

I have not seen this man for just over a year, we had no relationship etc (or never attraction) , we were friends, however something happened to me (mainly because of him and some business) and I could not trust him anymore (or no one in fact).. or go to court and fight but never honestly knew which side to take etc.. so I left the country not to loose my life (I dont want to go to details, kind of I knew too much..) and never mention where. I was very scared and mainly of my friend (realized it was kind of mafia). Now, being 9000km away out of the blue I got a dream: he send me BIG bunch of flowers, with card attached that he always loved me, always ment well. I woke up with a very warm feeling towards him.. I cant explain. CAN YOU???

Do you know the meanings of this dream?.....?
YOUR WORST FEARS ARE OVER...you now feel safe, and flowers always mean good thigs in dreams.....so relax now and enjoy your life....
Reply:I think you WANT to trust him. Be careful there isn't a snake among the flowers.

Please help me find the main ideas and possible hidden meanings of this sonnet!?

Men call you fayre; and you doe credit it

For that yourself ye dail, that is gentle wit

And a virtuous mind is much more praised of me.

For all the rest, however fayre it be

Shall turn to bought and lose that glorious hue

But only that is permenant and free

From frail corruption that doth flesh ensew.

That is true beauty, that doth urgue you

To be devine and borne of heval, seed

Derived from that fayre spirit from whom all true

And perfect beauty did at first proceed.

He only fayre, and what He fayre hath made

All other fayre, lyke flowers, untymly fade.

A friend wrote it for me and he told me that when i read it and understand it all to go talk to him, but I'm not sure that I have gotten the full meaning so please tell me what you think. Thank you so much in advance!

Please help me find the main ideas and possible hidden meanings of this sonnet!?
Men call you Fair (pretty) and you are

but you also have gentle wit

And a virtuous (pure) mind (and I value that even more)

(beauty,,)..however "fair" it is

(loses glorious hue) fades

but only that which is free from corruption (sin) that the flesh causes is true beauty

(real beauty,,(argues you) tells you to be devine and "heavenly"

( all true beauty comes (proceeds) from heaven

he only Fair (only god is beauty) and what god has made fair

all others fair,,,like flowers, fade

(outward beauty gone over time)

It was a really big compliment..You are beautiful outwardly but also inwardly ,,which is of greater importance..and virtuous too.

I'm looking for a wedding ceremony that involves placing flowers in a wreath and saying their meaning.?

I saw a ceremony some time ago that said something about a tree and a vine having seperate root systems but functioning better together and then it went into the wreath with flowers and their meanings. Help if you can! Thanks!

Buddhist symbol meanings?

I was wondering if anyone could explain all/any of these symbols on the flower?

http://i25.tinypic.com/1z227ox.jpg

Buddhist symbol meanings?
This is Hindu symbolism. In Buddhism, atleast as far as the Theravada practice is concerned, a lotus of eight petals symbolises the eightfold path; no other symbols (letters, like the Sanskrit letter 'Omh' on your picture) are used.
Reply:The color and style this flower/lotus suits a Hindi theme.

The characters you see are in the sanskrit language.

The character in the center is "OM" and in a Hindi expression, it is believed to be the sound of the beginning of everything. This powerful utterance was what manifested the creation of all existence. In a sense, you can say "OM" is the illustration of the BIG BANG.

"OM" is also equivalent to the chinese pronunciation of "nan". In Mahayana Buddhism, it's "surface" meaning relates to a pause in a mantra. This pause prepares for the following lines in a mantra. NAN or OM causes all the ghosts and spirits and beings to place their palms together in obedience.

The other characters I don't know. The one on the bottom left looks like "Ti". And above it is "om" or "nan" again. I assume this is a mantra.

Just because it is sanskrit won't confirm it is hindi. This is a mantra obviously going around the flower. Maybe it's that really famous tibetan mantra... dunno how it goes. I thought it might be the mantra from Mahayana Buddhism, "OM Mani Padme Hom"
Reply:It's not Buddhist, it's Hindu.

Flowers in Buddhist art have 8 petals... symbolising the eightfold path which every Buddhist must follow.

Buddhist symbols include the eight petaled lotus flower; the wheel (with 8 spokes), and the Buddha himself.
Reply:The only symbol I recognize on the flower is the one on the center. It's called "Om," and it represents the cosmic, all encompassing sound.
Reply:The symbol in the center is not Buddhist; it is the symbol in Hinduism

I gave a girl roses & asked her out, I heard there are meanings attached with roses & the color?

Some girls said, dont give her red, that means love, dont give her yellow, that means you cheated....so I chose orange %26amp; yellow mix. I wasnt trying to send any messages other than what I wrote on the card however Im wondering if she was thinking something else, she said yes %26amp; that she loved the flowers...but girls, what do you think if a guy sends roses to ask you out? does it mean anything?

I gave a girl roses %26amp; asked her out, I heard there are meanings attached with roses %26amp; the color?
SOME girls like to read into things, other girls just appreciate the favor. For example, a single rose is considered much more intimate than a bouquet of coloured roses.

If a guy were to send me roses to ask me out, I would find it very romantic...a bit cliche but romantic nonetheless. I mean, it's not everyday a girl gets roses!

http://www.proflowers.com/flowerguide/ro...

That site really breaks down the color meanings, if you're interested.
Reply:Not sure how my answer varies from others but I would think:

"Oh, wow, he bought me flowers, he actually likes me enough to spend money on me and cares enough to write something" and "keke, maybe I'll get more presents in the future"

But! If I have no idea who the guy was...I might just get paranoid, trash the flowers and ignore the message ^^

As long as you don't give white...that's represents death in the Asian culture.

Overall, I think it's a nice gesture
Reply:I would love to see a Rose when a guy asked me out! but maybe not to a rose till after you are already dating....Im not sure! Whats the next best flower that you can think of to give a girl when you ask her out?
Reply:yeah like you said there are meanings behind different colours of roses such as red is supposed to symbolise love. but honestly not many girls will focus or read in to the traditional meanings of the colours. to be honest she will be so stoked to receive roses that she wont mind what colour. she sounds like she will be a lucky girl.

Tattoo.. Meanings.. Help?

Okay, I really wanna get a tattoo on my 18th birthday.. I want something that stands for/ reminds me of my open-heart sugery.. I was wondering if y'all know any animal, plant, flower, etc that stands for "Health, Hope, Made it, etc

Or anything that would fit making through surgery!

Tattoo.. Meanings.. Help?
Take whatever ideas you already have and make an appointment to work something out with a tattoo artist.

Most tattoo artists have amazing imaginations as well as insight, and will work with your ideas to try and can come up with something to blow you away.
Reply:I think you could get a rose or a cheetah to show how strong and smart you are.
Reply:DO u have a scar i think thats tattoo enough..........good luck and God bless.
Reply:Lotus Flower, signifies overcoming or rising above. It grows from bottom reaching to sunlight and blooms when it reaches surface.

Maybe a heart rising from flower....
Reply:You might try finding a chinese character that represents one of those words. Check out this sight for some ideas. You can search by subject or by individual letters of the alphabet.

http://www.formosa-translation.com/chine...
Reply:why not get an actual heart (an anatomical one, not a valentine one) with like sunshine rays coming from behind it? a tattoo doesn't have to 'mean' anything to anybody else but you. it doesn't have to be a literal symbol that anybody else would recognize, as long as it reminds you of your ordeal and it would be an interesting conversation piece. good luck!

A plaited sign to denote success and protection against evil forces. It is found on a Sumerian seal and on a picture stone found in Gotland, Sweden, dating from the early part of the Viking era.

It is an interesting fact that plaited signs are often considered having magic qualities.

You could combine it with something like this

http://www.alaneastmanstudio.com/images/...

The carnation is a sign of affection, health and energy! But be careful about color :D

Striped carnations and yellow can mean refusal and disdain!

Also, Butterflies are often considered by many cultures as a symbol of joy, happiness, of spring, rebirth and renewal.

http://www.krystalrose.com/angels/img/do...

A butterfly might just be your tattoo to symbolize your new life as a healthier person!

The best part is bringing your ideas to your tattoo professional. These people are ARTISTS! If you bring them in some ideas, they can work a number of symbols into one, beautiful piece of art! Be open to suggestion and do not be afraid to say if you don't like something. These things are permanent!
Reply:How about a Bleeding Heart plant? These flowers are strong, resilient and thrive in all sorts of conditions. Plus, they're pretty.

Guys like that.. do they even exist really?

If your bf gets you the same type of flower twice, same color twice... Does that mean he knows flower meanings and means it? I just never thougt guys knew or cared about that.. anyone for that matter..

Guys like that.. do they even exist really?
I know more about flowers than I ever intended to as far as meanings and what to get. Most guys just go with the generic red rose and everyone knows it means love. Lilly's in my mind are far nicer but it depends upon the situation. I used to get my last g/f a dozen red roses every other Friday and leave them in her car at work, just because.

Reply:Real guys like that do not exist especially in Malaysia. My husband never gave me flowers but he is loving and we are happily married fo 19 years with 5 children, the eldest being 17 years. Guys who give flowers are guys who read that it is romantic yo give flowers . it is not their own true feelings. They do it because they think it is the in-thing ! It's not real. I am 1005 sure that all my happily married friends eel the same. I knew of a friend whose bf did give flowers but they didnot end up married to each other. See ? Be realistic and dont wait for flower-giving bf. They dont exist !! except in fairy tales
Reply:i would be grateful of even getting a flower .. any color any kind ..
Reply:Some actually do....some will ask what each one means when they buy it....it is true...they are not all total jerks...lol
Reply:you need to spend your time on fruitful things dont you
Reply:No, he probably thought you'd like those same flowers.
Reply:maybe he just thought that you liked them first time round and wanted you to like them again, its cute that he is buying you flowers not many people do lol x
Reply:it is same in most sexes , if we havent been told or dont understand we cannot know .. try not to be to hard on us :)
Reply:He may have noticed and remembered that you were impressed the first time and thought it would work again. Ask him!
Reply:they get told by anther woman like their sister or mother what colours stand for and so they get those colours I suppose.
Reply:why dont you just ask him if he knows what the type and colors stand for? if he says yes ask if he really means it, if he says yes again, just give him a kiss!
Reply:Yes, there are guys out there who know that kind of stuff. But, on the other hand....if you loved it the first time....we probably wont fix something thats not broken. ;)

Appropriate flowers for Indian Lady?

Hi, the guy who has been making some costumes for me has a wife (Indian Lady) who is very poorly and I would like to take her some flowers when I collect my costumes, what sort would be correct, as I know in British culture that certain flowers have particular meanings, eg red roses (love) white roses (eternity) Lillies for funerals etc etc and if there are similar traditions in India I would not like to upset her by giving her something inappropriate. so any suggestions please.

Appropriate flowers for Indian Lady?
Here is a website within India that explains the meaning of each type of flower, I hope it is helpful to you.

http://www.allindiaflowers.com/flowers-t...
Reply:Honeysuckle, bluebells, daffodils. I think they'd be appropriate. I think I've managed to copy the link correctly (first time!) but check out the website anyway:

http://www.thegardener.btinternet.co.uk/...

It gives the meaning of various flowers. Luckx

EDIT: Jesus - what are some of you like? Bambi only wants to make sure she's not insulting this lady, hence the question. There is absolutely NO NEED for responding in a negative manner. If you CAN'T answer the question positively DON'T answer at all - and certainly not with insults!
Reply:I found this for you:

http://www.indiaflowerdeliveries.com/flo...
Reply:Hey girl I say go with whatever you want. She'd be happy that you thought about her enough to get her flowers. Just think what would you get your mother and get the same for her. Oh by the way I think flowers sort of carry the same meaning throughout the world like red roses for example is a universal thing representing passion and love.
Reply:Sorry for the inappropriate comments made by an adviser below. He has proved his birth and upbringing as also his fitness to suggest on etiquette. I AM AN INDIAN. Brothers are allowed to present any flower to an Indian lady. If she is young, a single rose would be appropriate. Jasmine for the middle aged and above. A bouquet may also be good
Reply:You won't offend her by bringing her a bunch of flowers of all different kinds. Stop stressing this.
Reply:Hey there. I'm of Indian descent (parents are from India) and my female relatives love all types of exotic flowers; lillies, orchids, etc. They love garlands too. If you can find a water lily (loctus) you will be in good! It is the national flower; hope this helps! Good luck. Hey if you dont want to go that route, you can always try to make a good Indian dish such as tandoori chicken or anything spicy.
Reply:Why not just give her a lotus? They symbolize strength, respect, honor and prosperity in Indian culture.
Reply:in india all flowers are considered equal, you would see colourful carnations at weddings, parties and at funerals too...what ever the reason indians always use lots of 'colourful' flowers.

white flowers are not only for funerals, married indian ladies love decorating their hair with white jasmines.

i suggest give her a beautiful bouquet of colourfull flowers.

specially orange,yellow,magenta/pink flowers are a must.
Reply:White flowers are used at Indian funerals, so I would steer clear of those (especially if she is ill)
Reply:Jasmines or rajnigandha(don't know what they are called in English).
Reply:carnation

Are the Old Messages of Rebellion and Change being Rebranded to Corrupt and Trivialize their Meanings?

I watch in continuing amazement as another protest song from the 1960's assails me in the form of piped Muzak in a shopping mall. "Where have all the flowers gone" at the florist.

One of the most popular bands in the 1990s in the Uk advocated "girl power"

here is some of what they sung:

"Yo I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want,

So tell me what you want, what you really really want,

I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really

really really wanna zigazig ha. "

The defining album of "girl power" is wanting "zigazig ha"

Is this an illustration of how consumerism conspires to quell opposition. Take the leading edge method, remove most of the meaning from it, and market it as "edgy and rebellious"?

When it means next to nothing?

Are the Old Messages of Rebellion and Change being Rebranded to Corrupt and Trivialize their Meanings?

Are the Old Messages of Rebellion and Change being Rebranded to Corrupt and Trivialize their Meanings?
I hate to trot out a cliche, but it was different in the 60s, and NOT in a bad way. Basically speaking, the 60s was the decade with the most "be different" mentality, as opposed to the 00s "be the same". "Zigazig ha" can mean anything you want it to, but a 12-year-old can still buy the CD. Do you know how long it took me, and I'm laughing at myself here, to figure out that "Little Red Corvette" had nothing to do with a car?

Consumerism, almost by definition, DOES quell opposition. Everyone has to have the same thing, everyone has to be cool, but there has to be just enough "difference" among all the "samenesses" for people to think they are being individuals. So, add a guitar or 3, take away a violin or 2, and you can write the same song for any number of musical genres (just to follow your musical analogy).

AND Consumerism as seen above is doing its best to also quell any new messages of rebellion and change. When people think Fallout Boy and Slipknot are "rebellion" we've got a long way to go. Rebellion is best led, sorry all, by the intelligent rather than something that is allowed (and I do mean allowed) to go mainstream. Lennon was no dummy.
Reply:What about Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" (?)

I at least understand what that means. (Then, she also wrote, True Colors.) I don't get zigazig ha!

I don't think these are the same messages.

I loved John Lennon's "Imagine." I haven't heard anything like that, recently.

Perhaps, we have all become trivial and don't care about anything beyond our own zig or frig. Appears so.

C. :)!!
Reply:hahaha...my son was so enamored with the spice girls when he was six or so that one of my pet names for him was stinky spice. thank you for tapping into that most pleasant memory, we laughed for days.

ahem, allow me to gather my composure. i don't think that we can seriously compare the spice girls with the likes of john lennon, joan baez, or bob dylon. consider if you will the demographics. those who appreciated the lyrics of rebellious artists were more likely to be of legal voting age. further, their music wasn't really mainstream. people buying into that genre were generally on the fringe and welcomed representation of their already formed views. if these icons of past generations have modern peers i am not aware of them. if you are please share.
Reply:Your question incorrectly assumes that the inexplicably capitalized "Old Messages of Rebellion and Change" weren't trivial to begin with.

Twilight-Apple? New Moon-Flower? Eclipse-Ribbon?

I never really got the covers... I didn't understand the meanings of them... I thought for Eclipse, it should have been the bracelet breakign in half, the wolf on one side, the crystal heart on the other... I would ahve liked that MUCH better for a cover... but anyways, can anyone tell me what they mean?

Twilight-Apple? New Moon-Flower? Eclipse-Ribbon?
well, in the beginning of twilight they have a quote from genisis and it talks about the tree of knowledge of good and evil which was the tree adam and eve ate the apple and the world changed but the apple was evil since it was ike from satan, but it looked so good and supposedly tasted so good...which i think the apple is suppose to be bella to edward, did that make sense? (im horrible at explaning stuff) but since shes holding the apple its like shes giving it to him, to edward.

i haven't thought too much about the other covers but since the flower is sorta upside down and the petals keep falling off it could be bella since she without edward she just lost herself so the flowers are losing its petals. you know?

so yeah, i hope i helped!

if you could understand any of it!

:)
Reply:Twilight= The apple on the cover of Twilight represents "forbidden fruit." like edward being forbidden to bella

"forbidden love"

twilight was chosen as the title beacuse that is the time of day safest for vampires... right wen the sun goes down

New Moon= The cover means nothing, The publisher chose that one nd stephenie Meyer had nothing to do with that. she doesnt understand it 2

new moon was picked at the title because when its a new moon its the darkest night

and that was the darkesdt time of bellas life since edward left

Eclipse = The broken ribbon represents choice, as in the book Bella must choose between Edward and her friendship with jacob

eclipse was chosen because jacob is like bellas sun (she said in new moon). jacob said he can handle some clouds coverin him up but he cant handle an eclipse

that bein edward

Reply:Well, she says one her site that the apple represents "forbidden fruit tastes the sweetsets" and all the stories that surround apples like Adan and Eve. I am guessing the wilting flower repressents that Bella used to be happy and brave, but now she is a shadow of what she once was and is very sad and depressed. It is like a pretty flower getting ugly. I think that the fraying ribbon is the ribbon that repressented all of the parts of her life that she was despretly trying to hold together but it is not workingc and she will have ot make a choice. That's what I think!
Reply:twilight - the apple is the forbidden fruit.

new moon - the flower doesn't really mean much but i think it's supposed to be a crying tulip, showing how bella feels

eclipse - the ribbon is bella's feelings and how she's trying to break away from her old self but it's not a clean cut, there are always the little threads. you get it? she's torn apart, basically. hope that helps!!!
Reply:I know that Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse are all signs of the vampire, but I really don't know if the apple, flower, and ribbon mean anything. I don't think they do.
Reply:The apple means forbidden fruit, the flower doesn't mean anything she just picked it, and the ribbon represents breaking ties and there can never be a clean break and Bella needs to sever some ties. It;s on her homepage.
Reply:Twilight cover - the forbidden fruit; Bella and Edwards "forbidden love"

New Moon - Not specified, the author had nothing to do with the cover,

Eclipse cover - broken ties, bellas choices: vampires or

werewolves
Reply:IM READING THAT SERIES RIGHT NOW! WELL IM READING TWILIGHT! LOVE IT SO FAR!!!! but sorry i dont know the answer sorry

How do you interpret the poem "nothing gold can stay"?

Nature's first green is gold

Her hardest hue to hold

Her early leaf's a flower

But only so an hour

Then leaf subsides to leaf

So Eden sank to grief

So dawn goes down to day

Nothing gold can stay

what are some different meanings that can be seen in the poem?

does the poem sound upsetting or encouraging to you?

How do you interpret the poem "nothing gold can stay"?
The general theme of this poem

...is the passage of time and it's eternal repetitiveness

...and also points out that the most glorious times of a tree's life are very short lived and the rest of a trees existence (symbolizing life) is common and mundane compared to certain more glorious moments in it's life.

The poem urges us to compare the tree's life with the meaning of our existence ...are we here only for a relatively few glory days or are all the days in between more important? There is a religious overtone, with the mention of Eden ...I expect it is a reference to God's hand in all this existence stuff.

The poem is a bit sombre I find, as it suggests that nothing good will last! True maybe, but still a little morbid.
Reply:The things you hold beloved never stay forever. btw, nice poem, cna I post it?
Reply:Enjoy it while it lasts, time goes by so quickly.

Stay gold Pony

Does anyone have any idea what ovate and pinnate leaves are?

The trumpet flower is supposed to have ovate and pinnate leaves, but unfortunately I'm very vague on the meanings. Web sites with pictures would be nice.

Does anyone have any idea what ovate and pinnate leaves are?
Excellent photos of all parts of the plant here:

http://www.missouriplants.com/Redopp/Cam...

If you need specimens, I can send you a few truckloads. These things grow a little too well in some places, if you plant them to attract hummingbirds you'll have a lot of work on your hands keeping them from taking over everything. When I bought the house I'm in now (Missouri), I had one with a 8" thick stalk that had made it about 30 feet up a walnut tree. Insects similar to chinch bugs killed it off but didn't seem to harm anything but the older trumpet creepers, I'm actually a little relieved the vines are gone. They drop a lot of seeds, and half of my summer is spent trying to keep the rapid growing sprouts from covering buildings and such. The aerial roots tend to wedge under trim and pry it loose, too.
Reply:Ovate refers to the shape of each leaflet. The trumpet flower (also called trumpet vine and trumpet creeper if you are studying Campsis radicans) has compound leaves - big fern-looking leaves made of smaller leaflets. For ovate, think "oval", but these have teeth along the sides and are pointed at the tip.

Pinnate means that the leaflets of the compound leaf are arranged on the two sides of a center rib - sticking out on both sides of that rib like a fern leaf. If all the leaflets came out from one spot like a four-leaf clover, it would be called palmate.

Leaf picture here: http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek010822...
Reply:Pinnate means featherlike; having leaflets on each side of a common axis. The one that comes to mind is a fern.

Ovate - think oval, it means egg-shaped with the broader end at the base. The trumpet vine is one, another might be the fig tree or a beech tree.
Reply:1) OVATE LEAF == A leaf or a leaflet is said to be ovate if its general outline or shape is like that of an egg or oval.

2) PINNATE LEAF == Alef is said to be pinnate when

i) It is a compound leaf i.e. entire leaf is divided in to many, small , independent segments called leaflets or pinnae.

And

ii) These pinnae are arranged on the main axis at different points along its length.

Let us see the links and understand it better

In the above photo there are FIVE leaflets of a single leaf , two paired and one solitary ( It is a rose leaf)

http://www.hainaultforest.co.uk/Leaf%20A...

In this , ther are nine leaflets , four paired and one single.

3) Trupet flower is a general term and covers a large number of plants / flowers . They are widely different from each other .

Only common factor is their trumpet shaped flowers.

Reply:pinnate means "feather like"

ovate means means shaped like an egg.

See the links below....there are tons of different leaf shape names (I had a lot of problems describing leaves for my thesis!@#!#)

Luckily these are just general outline shapes (you get words describing the tips, bases, or 2-3 or MORE! words combined to describe a leaf eg obvate to obovate with trucated base etc!!

Good luck
