Can Shinu be a name?

Would Shinu, the japanese word for 'to die' be an okay name? I mean, there's lots of wierd name meanings out there. Also, names like Ai mean love, or Hana means flower (of course those are pretty names, 'to die' is kind of depressing) But will it be like a person naming there kid Jump, or Sick, or something?

P.S. I'm thinking the name for a boy

Can Shinu be a name?
You couuuuld name your kid "Shinu," but he'd probably be teased by anybody who knows Japanese. "Oi, Shinu! Dying time is here!" "Shinu! Mou shinu yo!" And if ever the mother-son relations get strained (which happens to some extent with most teenagers) he might pass into an emo phase and say, "Mom, you hated having me, didn't you? You wanted me to die, which is why you named me 'Shinu'!"

This is one of those life-altering snafu's which might best be avoided, like the woman who named her boy "Sean" (pronounced "seen") after her favorite actor: "Seen" Connery.

A few years back, there was a Japanese couple who tried to name their baby "Akuma" (means "devil" or "demon"). The Japanese government wouldn't allow it.

Alternately, "Shin" is a male Japanese name. It's got lots of positive applications. (There's also "Shino" for girls.)
Reply:I should say it can be a name.

Regardless its meaning, that sounds nice!

Generally, we have the right to give a name of what we like.
Reply:it sounds very nice...if you dont live in japan then its ok,no one will think about the meaning...some ppl in mexico gave their baby name Yahoo so why should you think about so nice name like Shinu? i like my name: Gabrijela (Габријела) =)
