Is there a flower that means "unique" or "odd"?

I know that flowers have meanings; For example the flower Oleander means caution. But I was wondering if anybody knew the name of a flower that meant "unique" or "odd".

Is there a flower that means "unique" or "odd"?

When did flowers begin to have meanings and messages?

I read something about the Victorian age, but did certain flowers have certain meanings before this age, like in the late 1600's?

When did flowers begin to have meanings and messages?
I believe it was the Egyptians who first started using flowers and plants for spiritual purposes. I know they would embalm Pharaoh with certain flowers and herbs so as to move to the next life faster and more power, riches, whatever they were seeking once they got there. So that would make B.C. I don't know maybe 200B.C. I will check my facts and edit.

EDIT: I found this site. The time line of ancient Egypt was 2615-332 B.C.

Where can i find the meanings of different flowers for a bouquet?

i was trying to think of what to have my bridesmaids carry for my wedding, and while i was thinking of little min lanterns, my fiance (yes, my guy thought of this...i though it was cute!!) suggested that each of them had a different flower, like one that means love, one for faithfullness, one for joy. (i'm having 3) but other than a rose meaning love, i can't find flowers that mean faithfullness and joy, or purity. what are some sites that have meanings of flowers so i can pick flowers for my bridesmaids and myself? thanks!! ^-^

Help- flower meanings for memorial?

I want to know what flowers will convey a certain meaning. My brother died last June from Brain Cancer. He was 47 yrs old.

I have googled flowers to see what they mean, but I am also interested in what you all have to say about what you have learned about certain flowers, plants, and just ideas in general of what to leave at his masoleum site (no grass or headstone, just a flower holder).

I appreciate any answers at all; none are "wrong" (of the "real" answers I get. )

Help- flower meanings for memorial?
Too many flowers to list here ... but here is a link that shows every flower A-Z and it's meaning.

Reply:Daffodils. The Daffodil is the first flower of spring, a symbol of hope, renewal, and for the American Cancer Society, the promise that one day the world will be free of cancer.
Reply:You could lavender. Lavender can represent many things.

Peace, Love, Protection, Happiness
Reply:The rest of the answers are all good. All I can add is Carnations. I used the link from the first answerer and it says what I read before. Red- Miss you/ Pink- Never Forget You/ White- Pure Love.....but read the link for a better explanation. Kudos #1 person!

(and thanks. I bookmarked that for the next time I need it.)

Also, look up lavender (or Heather) because #2 person also had a good suggestion.

Sorry for your loss too.

Most reliable original flower meanings webpage?

ive seen like 10 plus with meanings that contradict each other...........can anybody help me?

Most reliable original flower meanings webpage?
Not sure if this is really accurate, but it's from a floral shop so it should be somewhat accurate. If really unsure what the flower means, the thought is most important %26amp; make sure to also let the recipient know that regardless of what the flower means, the recipient was on your mind when you got the flower.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Headstone designs and meanings, does anyone know where I can find out if a certain flower has a meaning?

I want to get a tattoo of the flower on my mom's headstone, but would like to know if there is a meaning behind it. Does anyone know of a good place to find out?

Headstone designs and meanings, does anyone know where I can find out if a certain flower has a meaning?
Hmmm.

Aside from the standard floral meanings... here's a thought. WHO ordered the tombstone for mom? If you are in touch with that person (and I understand you might not be), you might ask why they chose that flower and its significance for your mother. It might be as simple as it was just her favorite.

The other is to locate the monument company that actually MAKES them, and have a chat. It might be that they are real familiar with selections of symbols, and why they offer/ suggest certain things to the family.

here is a website from someone who has background in exactly what you want, for tatoo purposes. Normally, I'll admit I am not a fan of tatoos, but I really think your idea is cool.
Reply:I am a contributor on Find a Grave. ( www.findagrave.com)

you might want to go to this website and and click on the Discussion Forums link. There are a lot of people interested in tombstone inscriptions and symbols who have a wealth of knowledge on the topic. I believe to use the discussion forums, you have to register but registration is free. If you want to simply browse what is there, registration isn't necessary.

Blessings,
Reply:it would help if you mentioned the actual name of the flower--I'm sure there are books about symbols--but there are so many: afro based symbols ... celtic based symbols ... jewish symbols--why not try looking in books of and about the tarot: Many flowers have many meanings in that venue.

What are the meanings of the HIBISCUS FLOWER?
If you receive Hibiscus flower might suggest, "Seize this opportunity."

Hibiscus are native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. One species of Hibiscus, known as Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus), is extensively used in paper making. Another, roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is used as a vegetable and to make herbal teas and jams. The bark of the hibiscus contains strong fibers and are used for making grass skirts.

What are the meanings of the different colors of the lotus flower?

I have tried to research the different colors that the lotus blooms. i want a lotus flower tatoo but only if it has a meaning relevant to my life. each web site has different meanings. does anyone know the meaning of the different colors?

What are the meanings of the different colors of the lotus flower?
If it's a Buddhist lotus flower... you got me there. But I think blue is supposed to mean divinity in Hinduism, like w/ blue Krishna in paintings. Most depictions seem to have golden or pink and white lotuses, so those are probably safe colors to choose.

Wait, according to a website:

1)White Lotus (Skt. pundarika; Tib. pad ma dkar po): This represents the state of spiritual perfection and total mental purity (bodhi). It is associated with the White Tara and proclaims her perfect nature, a quality which is reinforced by the color of her body.

2). Red Lotus (Skt. kamala; Tib: pad ma chu skyes): This signifies the original nature and purity of the heart (hrdya). It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion and all other qualities of the heart. It is the flower of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion.

3). Blue Lotus (Skt. utpala; Tib. ut pa la): This is a symbol of the victory of the spirit over the senses, and signifies the wisdom of knowledge. Not surprisingly, it is the preferred flower of Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom.

4). Pink Lotus (Skt. padma; Tib. pad ma dmar po): This the supreme lotus, generally reserved for the highest deity. Thus naturally it is associated with the Great Buddha himself."

Reply:Lotus flowers are amazing and have strong symbolic ties to many Asian religions especially throughout India. The lotus flower starts as a small flower down at the bottom of a pond in the mud and muck. It slowly grows up towards the waters surface continually moving towards the light. Once it come to the surface of the water the lotus flower begins to blossom and turn into a beautiful flower.

Within Hinduism and Buddhism the lotus flower has become a symbol for awakening to the spiritual reality of life. The meaning varies slightly between the two religions of course but essentially both religious traditions place importance on the lotus flower.

In modern times the meaning of a lotus flower tattoo ties into it's religious symbolism and meaning. Most tattoo enthusiast feel that the a lotus tattoo represent life in general. As the lotus flower grows up from the mud into a object of great beauty people also grow and change into something more beautiful (hopefully!). So the symbol represent the struggle of life at its most basic form.

Lotus flower tattoos are also popular for people who have gone through a hard time and are now coming out of it. Like the flower they have been at the bottom in the muddy, yucky dirty bottom of the pond but have risen above this to display an object of beauty or al ife of beauty as the case might be. Thus a lotus flower tattoo or blossom can also represent a hard time in life that has been overcome.

Lotus flower and peonies are also two flowers that are very popular among Japanese tattoo artists and they make a great compliment to Koi Fish tattoos. Ironically enough the two koi fish and lotus flowers can often be found in the same pond in front of a temple. The Koi fish is a symbol typically for strength and individualism.
